OnePlus said it’d be making an Avengers-branded limited edition of the OnePlus 6 a while back, and here it is. The Avengers: Infinity War edition features a Kevlar-style patterned back along with a gold Avengers emblem and color-matched mute switch. There's also a new official case molded in the shape of Iron Man’s helmet. Overall it’s a more ambitious effort than the Star Wars OnePlus 5T, which was basically just a white 5T that said “Star Wars” on the back.
The front of the device is identical to the standard model launched last evening and we are looking at a 6.28-inch display supporting Full HD+ resolution of 2280 x 1080 pixels and 19:9 aspect ratio. The display also sports a notch that hides the front camera, speaker and other sensors. The back of the device, however, seems to have received a major design change. The Avengers Limited Edition seems to sport a carbon fiber-like design at the back and it seems to be housed beneath the glass back. The OnePlus branding is below the dual camera and fingerprint sensor modules.
The OnePlus 6 Avengers Limited Edition smartphone will feature the same Snapdragon 845 SoC under the hood. It is expected to be offered with 8GB of RAM and 256GB internal storage. It will also get the same dual camera system with a primary 16-megapixel f/1.7 sensor and a secondary 20-megapixel f/1.7 sensor for portrait mode effect. There is also a 16-megapixel selfie shooter at the front similar to last year’s model. OnePlus 6 will be available in three designs — Mirror Black, Midnight Black and Silk White.
News of the Avengers phone’s existence originally came from OnePlus India, so it’s almost certainly going to see release in the region. The local OnePlus 6 launch event doesn’t kick off for a few hours, though, so all we have to go on for now is the Chinese announcement. The limited-edition phone only comes as an 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage variant that sells for 4,199 yuan ($660 US/₹45,000), a 200-yuan ($31 US/₹2,100) premium over the equivalent regular model. No word on a release date just yet.
OnePlus is expected to announce the pricing of OnePlus 6 at its event in Mumbai today. The smartphone is priced at $529 (around Rs 36,000) for the standard variant with 6GB RAM and 64GB storage. The premium variant with 8GB RAM and 256GB storage is priced at $629 (around Rs 43,000). In India, the smartphone is expected to start at Rs 36,900 with the Avengers Limited edition model commanding a bit more premium.
